No Planet for Apes? Assessing Global Priority Areas and Species Affected by Linear Infrastructures

چکیده
Approximately 65% of primate species are facing extinction, with threats including the impacts linear infrastructures such as roads, railways, and power lines, associated habitat loss fragmentation, direct indirect mortality, changes in animal behavioral patterns. Nevertheless, this is an often-overlooked topic primatology, there limited information on which regions most affected by infrastructures. Here, we provide a global assessment priority areas for conservation integrating from global-scale open-access data sets distributional ranges, traits, to infrastructures, together systematic literature review questionnaire sent primatological societies. We produced bivariate map that reflects patterns co-occurrence Conservation Value Infrastructure Density. From highlight Primate Mitigation Areas (regions high Density), where infrastructure mitigation should be prioritized; Preservation low represent preserved further development. primarily include Atlantic forest Brazil, Guinean forests West Africa, Southeastern Asia, whereas found principally Amazon Congo River basins. Our also list great apes gibbons ranking highest. Global projects, especially Belt Road Initiative, can seriously affect both (particularly preservation areas) vulnerable species, due massive sprawl human activity. Thus, call dedicated strategic environmental social assessments throughout these different economic corridors within Initiative planning process, prior developing projects. serve tool coordinate management actions legislation around world.

Planet of the apes
What makes us humans so special? Our language, our genes, our culture, our cognitive skills? At the Max-Planck-Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, psychologists, linguists and biologists tackle this old question in a truly multidisciplinary way. Their results have implications not just for our understanding of human evolution--they also touch directly on many social and environm...
متن کاملAlternate Species Concepts as Bases for Determining Priority Conservation Areas
Analysis of geographic concentrations of endemic taxa is often used to determine priorities for conservation action; nevertheless, assumptions inherent in the taxonomic authority list used as the basis for analysis are not always considered. We analyzed foci of avian endemism in Mexico under two alternate species concepts. Under the biological species concept, 101 bird species are endemic to Me...
متن کاملNo planet for HD 166435
The G0V star HD 166435 has been observed by the fiber-fed spectrograph ELODIE as one of the targets in the large extra-solar planet survey that we are conducting at the Observatory of Haute-Provence. We detected coherent, low-amplitude, radial-velocity variations with a period of 3.7987 days, suggesting a possible close-in planetary companion. Subsequently, we initiated a series of high-precisi...

developing of mobile technologies in the field of health create a new branch of e-health called mobile-health. the goal of this study is evaluation of communications infrastructure for mobile-health. for this purpose, fuzzy analytic hierarchy process is used for modeling and ranking the criterions and applications. three main criteria in mobile communication network namely, data transmission, a...
متن کاملGlobal Developments in Priority Setting in Health
Countries around the world are experiencing an ever-increasing need to make choices in investments in health and healthcare. This makes it incumbent upon them to have formal processes in place to optimize the legitimacy of eventual decisions. There is now growing experience among countries of the implementation of stakeholder participation, and a developing convergence of methods to support dec...
